Jeff Simmons, Choir Director

A native of Gainesville, Jeff earned his Bachelor’s in Music Education at the University of Georgia, and his Master’s in Music Performance at the University of South Carolina.

Jeff has performed as a professional saxophonist with many well known artists. He writes special music arrangements for music groups throughout the US. He has been staff arranger for UNC Marching Tar Heels and the NC State Marching Wolfpack. His original compositions and arrangements for bands are published by Arranger’s Publishing Company in Nashville, TN.

Recently, Jeff spent eight years as part of the house band at the Carolina Opry in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was also director of music at The Abbey in Pawleys Island, SC.

Locally Jeff is probably best known as the arranger of the Battle Hymn of the Bulldog that has become legendary as part of the Georgia Bulldogs football tradition. The composition, written in 1987 during his senior year at UGA, was a student experiment written for a friend that has far surpassed its original intention.

Jeff has two sons, Hunter, 12, and Jacob, 6. He enjoys reading, walking, and excursions to historic sites.
